Guide to Fes, Morocco

A detailed guide to Fes, Morocco

Hey there, fellow travelers! Ready for an epic adventure in Fes? Buckle up because we are about to take you on a ride through this Moroccan gem that’ll make Marrakech look like a modern metropolis

Day 1: Transitioning to Fes – A Scenic Train Ride

Picture this: You’re on a train, zipping through Morocco’s diverse landscapes, leaving the hustle of Marrakech behind. As you pull into Fes, it’s like you’ve traveled centuries back in time.

Upon arriving, we checked into Riad Norma Fes, our comfortable haven for the next few days, and immediately immersed ourselves in the enchanting labyrinth of the Moroccan medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Wandering through its narrow streets, sampling local delicacies, and exploring traditional markets, we were captivated by Fes’s old-world charm, more than Marrakech. In the evening, we treated ourselves to a nice dinner at Hotel Sahia, perched on a hill overlooking the beautiful medina. Absolutely breathtaking!

Day 2: Delving into Fes – History & Heritage

Woke up to the pitter-patter of rain. Bummer, right? But fear not! Our amazing riad served up a breakfast so delicious that it made us forget all about the weather. Moroccan hospitality for the win!

Armed with umbrellas and full bellies, we set out to explore. During the day, we visited the Royal Palace of Fes.

We also explored the Jewish Quarter and the Aben Danan Synagogue. We ended the day with a visit to a cafe in the Medina, which offered stunning panoramic views of Fes.

Day 3: Navigating Fes’ Maze-like Medina

Saved the best for last – navigating the famous Fes medina! This place is insane, guys. We’re talking 10,000 alleyways spanning 100 km. It’s like someone took a city, shook it up, and let the pieces fall where they may

Thank goodness for our guide, Mohammed. This guy was a lifesaver! He knew every twist and turn, every hidden gem, and had stories that brought the city to life. You can book the tour with him by clicking here. Must recommend!

We hit all the iconic spots – the stunning Bou Inania Madrasa, the bright blue Bab Boujloud gate, and the Nejjarine Museum of Wooden Arts & Crafts. But the real adventure? Weaving through tiny workshops where artisans were creating magic with their hands.

Oh, and a word of advice about the tanneries – they’re fascinating, but maybe bring a nose clip or a bunch of mint leaves. The smell is… let’s just say it’s an experience!

So there you have it, folks – three unforgettable days in Fes. It’s chaotic, it’s beautiful, and it’s unlike anywhere else in the world. Trust us, you’ll leave a piece of your heart in this maze-like city
